Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsEven as the investigation into the alleged assault against a serving Army Colonel and his son was handed over to the CBI, there has been no outcome of the three earlier probes ordered by the Punjab Government. However, the Patiala police have now assured to “complete the pending departmental inquiry”.
Even before the Chandigarh Police were handed over the investigation in April, three separate probes were ordered earlier by the Punjab Police, Punjab Government and the state Home Affairs Department. In the four-month-old case, no accused policeman has been arrested.
In the incident, Col Pushpinder Bath and his son were allegedly attacked by policemen on March 13 night. Jaswinder Kaur Bath, wife of Colonel Bath, said they had not been “explained” the status of the three earlier probes ordered by the government.
“We were hopeful that at least the departmental probe, which was ordered by then SSP Nanak Singh, would be completed. Despite his verbal assurance to us and the media that it would be completed within 45 days, nothing has been done so far,” said Jaswinder Kaur while praising the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order on Wednesday directing a CBI probe into the incident.
