Will tackle gangsters, check drug menace, says Gaurav Yadav, DGP, Punjab

A 1992-batch Punjab-cadre IPS officer, Gaurav Yadav, today assumed office as the officiating Director General of Police, Punjab.

In a video message after taking charge Yadav said his priority was to check drug menace and rein in gangsters.

Soon after assuming office, Yadav reached the Kharar CIA office to question gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. He said, “As per the wishes of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, I will strive to develop friendly policing with the cooperation of the people.”

As per the orders issued by the state government, Yadav will also continue to hold the charge of Special DGP, Administration.

Yadav held a meeting with the police top brass and assured them he would continue to work for the betterment of the state police.

The DGP, while briefing officers, said the priority of the government was to strengthen the fight against drugs to make Punjab a drug-free state, besides eliminating the gangster culture and maintaining law and order.

He stressed the need for reviving basic policing, which includes keeping vigil at vulnerable spots and readiness to handle any kind of law and order situation, monitoring crime data, inspection of police stations and looking after the welfare of police personnel.
