The woman drug peddler was identified as Mandeep Kaur (27) of Ibban Kalan village here. She used to don police uniform for transporting drugs to avoid catching cops’ attention.

The police also arrested two other operatives, Alam Arora (23) and Manmeet, alias Golu (24), both residents of Janta Colony in the Chheharta area. A Tarn Taran-based 18-year-old boy, whose name has been withheld by the police, was also arrested in the case. He was also allegedly part of the cartel.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said as per the initial probe, Mandeep was in relationship with a person who introduced her to Pakistan-based smugglers. She originally hailed from Khalra village in Tarn Taran district located near the International Border.

“She used to impersonate as a cop for transporting drugs,” said the DGP, while adding that further investigations were on to ascertain their links.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the police had intelligence inputs about a drug racket being operated by a woman. Working on the leads, the police zeroed in on Mandeep Kaur, a widow, and also nabbed Alam and Manmeet from Chheharta.

Mandeep’s interrogation led to the arrest of their fourth accomplice. “His role in the case and antecedents are being investigated by the police. Therefore, his name has been withheld for now,” he added. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Chheharta police station here.
