Woman killed in Sriganganagar, body thrown in dumpyard
Abohar, July 8
Panic spread after body of an unidentified woman was found this afternoon at the dumpyard for animal carcasses, 1 km away from Rattewala village in the Sriganganagar area. Photos of the deceased have been uploaded on social media and also sent to neighbouring Punjab and Haryana police stations seeking cooperation to identify the victim.
The police station in-charge, Ramkesh Meena, said a villager noticed body of around 32-year-old unidentified woman wrapped and tied in a quilt at the dumpyard for animal carcasses and informed the police. Her face was burnt by some chemical, possibly acid, so that she cannot be identified, said Meena.
A Forensic Science Laboratory team was called to collect evidence at the spot, he added. A mobile unit was also called to pick up footprints of suspects and dog squad deployed to help trace the killers, he said. The body was sent to the government hospital for a post-mortem, he added.
Prime facie it appeared that after killing this young woman at some other place and burning her face with acid, her body was ferried in a vehicle and thrown in the dumpyard, he said.
The police also inspected tyre marks of vehicles around spot, he added. It was not yet clear whether body was brought here in a four or on a two-wheeler, he said.
Apparently, no other injury marks were visible on the body. The woman was probably strangulated or given poison. Later, her face was burnt with acid. The killers then fled, leaving the body in the dumpyard. The police have registered a case of murder against unknown persons in this connection.
