The administration has called upon women of the region to play an active role in implementing the fifth edition of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan Catch the Rain (JSACTR) campaign by conserving water and catching every drop of rain that falls during the concluding phase of the drive.
A meeting was organised to review the progress of implementation of the campaign. Officials led by the Deputy Commissioner, Dr Pallavi, made the call with the intent to decipher the theme of this edition — JSA CTR-Nari Shakti Se Jal Shakti.
The DC said she was satisfied with the progress made in tapping rainwater since the campaign’s launch on March 9. She said officials concerned in various departments had been advised to rope in women of their respective areas to achieve desired results to curb the over-exploitation of water resources.
“Though we have already succeeded in sensitising women, associated with various government and public organisations, about their role in conservation of water, we have drafted a plan to involve women of the rural and urban localities as ‘women water warriors’ to maximise the output during this phase of the campaign concluding on November 30,” said the DC.
Enumerating, geo-tagging, and making an inventory of all water bodies, along with water conservation and rainwater harvesting, were named as focused interventions of the ensuing campaign.
The DC said women could play a leading role in the campaign. She said, “As women have been the worst sufferers of any disruption in domestic water supply, they can perceive, utilise and protect precious water resources efficiently.”
