Mahinder Sathi might have lost the battle of life but his verses will keep inspiring the generations of workers to fight for their rights. He was 85.

Moga-based revolutionary poet, who belonged to the working class, passed away at a hospital in Ropar’s Nurpur Bedi, where a group of fans took care of him.

Sathi penned famous song ‘Mashala baal ke chalan jadon tak raat baki hai, sambhal ke har kadam rakhna jadon tak raat baki hai (We will keep alive the flame, as long as dusk is there)’ became the anthem of the struggling masses in the 1980s and 90s.

Sathi was one of the few poets who hailed from the working class and till his death, he lived in penury. Even cost of his treatment was taken care of by some admirers of his poetry. The Punjab Government tried to help by bearing the cost of his treatment but it was too late. — TNS
