A yellow alert has been issued by the administration as dense fog and a cold wave continue to grip Abohar town and its surrounding areas, disrupting normal life. The temperature has dipped further and the combination of fog and cold wave has created significant challenges for locals.

This morning, the temperature here was recorded at below 10°C, with the cold wave continuing and winds blowing at a speed of 5 km per hour. Dense fog has intensified the situation, severely affecting visibility. Drivers were forced to rely on their vehicle headlights even by 10 am to navigate the highways, making travel hazardous.

The cold wave has also impacted public transport, with buses and trains seeing a drop in passenger numbers. Many vehicles remained empty on Thursday morning, as commuters preferred to stay indoors due to the severe weather.

Weather experts have predicted the cold would persist for the coming days, with temperatures expected to hover between 10°C and 14°C until next Thursday. People have been turning to bonfires for warmth and local markets are opening later than usual due to the chill.

In light of the severe fog and low temperatures, schools have extended their winter holidays until January 7. This extension has been welcomed by both parents and teachers, particularly after previous years saw accidents involving school vans and teacher vehicles due to poor visibility during the first week of January.

As the cold continues to affect daily activities, residents of Abohar are advised to take necessary precautions, including wearing warm clothing and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak fog hours.
