Faridkot youth dies in jail, kin allege police torture
Faridkot, February 27
The death of a youth in Central Jail here today led to a protest by his family members. The family has accused the police of torturing the victim, Manjider Singh, alias Dimple, which led to his death. However, denying the allegations, the police claimed the cause of death was yet to be confirmed.
It added that the youth had been arrested early this month along with his three accomplices and illegal weapons were seized from them. They had been sent to the Faridkot jail on February 15 after the police remand was over.
The police claimed that on February 25, his health deteriorated inside the jail and he was brought to the hospital for treatment, where he died during treatment. According to the police, the youth had some serious ailment and the cause of his death would be known only after the post-mortem examination.
