Rural Punjab women’s Phulkari to be showcased in UK

After Germany and Dubai, rural women from Punjab will now showcase their Phulkari embroidery at an international event in the UK from July 8 to 10. Manpreet Kaur from Mahinangal village here will represent Bathinda under the initiative by HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) and the Nabha Foundation. “Started in July 2023, the Phulkari project has trained over 300 women across 22 villages, helping them earn livelihood and preserve Punjab’s cultural heritage. Earlier, artisans participated in exhibitions in Dubai and Germany, gaining global exposure,” said an HMEL official.

Protesting hospital staff attracts patients’ ire

Patiala: The Resident Doctors’ Association and MBBS interns of the Government Medical College here, who continued to observe their day-long strike by suspending the OPD services at Rajindra Medical College, faced stiff resistance from patients visiting the hospital for treatment on Monday. The patients were seen entering into heated arguments with the doctors and urging them to end the strike.

25-year-old farmer electrocuted

Fazilka: A 25-year-old farmer died of electric shock at Dhani Mohana Ram village near Fazilka on Sunday. The victim, identified as Krishan Singh, had gone to run a submersible pump to irrigate the paddy crop in his fields. The victim’s wife Manjit Kaur said when Krishan Singh did not return home for a long time, she went to fields and found him lying there. The body of the deceased was handed over to family after a post-mortem examination.

Addict’s video outside Golden Temple goes viral

Amritsar: A video of a youth under the influence of drugs outside the Golden Temple, which went viral on social media, has sparked a concerns. The police have initiated probe to locate the youth. “We have launched an investigation apart from making efforts to identify the youth who is yet to be located,” said ACP Jaspal Singh. In the video, a youth was seen wearing black T-shirt with lower and a yellow coloured headgear. He told the man capturing his video that he was living in vicinity of the shrine for past several days.
