Heroin weighing 3 kg was found in a field in the border area in Sriganganagar sector on Friday afternoon. The heroin is suspected to have been dropped from a drone by Pakistani smugglers.

BSF and police teams reached the spot and found a suspicious package of yellow color lying in a sandy field of Chak 3-KNM of Gram Panchayat 12-KND. The packet had a hook on it. BSF and police officials opened the packet and found two white cloth bags each containing 1.5 kg heroin. The seized heroin is worth Rs 15 crore in the international market, the police said.

After the recovery of the heroin, the police and the BSF jointly conducted a search operation in the nearby fields and areas, but no other suspicious object was found. Circle Inspector Navneet Singh said that the packet was found around 3 pm. The same bears the mark of Pakistani smugglers. It is suspected that the package was dropped by Pakistani smugglers in the area using a drone.

BSF sources said the package was perhaps dropped by Pakistani smugglers late Friday night. At present, there is no clue of Indian smugglers coming to take the packet. Intelligence agencies are now determining whether any local contact of Indian smugglers has been involved in this area.
