The suspect, identified as Hanif Khan (47), of Bahal village near the India-Pakistan border, has been accused of sending confidential information about the Indian Army to the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, for the sake of money. Surprisingly, he also passed sensitive information related to Operation Sindoor across the border.
Vishnu Kant, Inspector General of CID Intelligence, said that a team had been monitoring Hanif Khan's suspicious activities for a long time. Investigations revealed that he was in contact with ISI handlers through social media and had visited Pakistan many times. Hanif had easy access to border areas like Mohangarh and Gharsana in Sriganganagar, which he exploited to gather information about military bases and army activities.
Interrogation revealed that Hanif had also provided information about Army movements to Pakistani agents during Operation Sindoor. Money was being transferred to his bank account from across the border. Following a technical investigation by various intelligence agencies at the Central Interrogation Center, Hanif was arrested under the State Secrets Act, 1923.
Officials said that this was the fifth arrest in 2025 on charges of espionage from Jaisalmer.
