A day after Haryana youth hangs self, his girlfriend commits suicide

A day after Sahil Kumar (22) of Kurukshetra, hanged himself to death from a wooden ladder at his paying guest accommodation in Phase 11 here, his girlfriend also committed suicide on Thursday in the same manner.

As per the police, the victim, Pragya (26), is a resident of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and was Sahil’s girlfriend.

Pragya was also seen near Sahil at the time of the incident on Wednesday, which was captured in the CCTV footage.

Pragya hanged herself from an iron ladder with the help of a ‘dupatta’ on her PG’s terrace around 6 am this morning.

ASI Nirmal Singh said Pragya and Sahil were working in the same company — Bestech Towers, Sector 66, Mohali. They were staying in their respective PGs in the same locality in Phase 11, Mohali. The duo wanted to get married and their families had no objection as well.

The reason behind the extreme steps taken by Sahil and Pragya was still unknown, the ASI added.

“Parents of both victims have been informed. Pragya’s dead body was also sent to Civil Hospital in Phase 6 where the post-mortem examinations of both victims will be conducted,” said ASI Nirmal Singh.

The Phase 11 police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
