Solan, June 9
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) today approved the lab of Dr YS Parmar Government Medical College at Nahan for Covid-19 testing, making it the sixth such lab in the state.
The Solan district administration has set aside Rs 1.18 crore for the lab to be set up in the basement and the ground floor of an ayurvedic hospital, which is part of the medical college. The Covid samples from the district were earlier sent to the CRI, Kasauli, for testing — the Kasauli lab is overburdened, as it also tests samples from Solan district. This new lab will facilitate testing of samples from within the district.
The money for the lab was secured from the District Mineral Foundation Fund. The users of major minerals such as cement plants pay 30 per cent royalty to the state government and out of this, 10 per cent is deposited in this fund. The Union Government had in March this year permitted the use of 70% fund for the mitigation of Covid. — TNS
