A speeding taxi hit two men sitting on a footpath in Sector 12 of RK Puram in southwest Delhi, the police said on Thursday. One of them died, while another received injuries in the incident.
According to the police, the incident took place around 3 pm. Two men - Sanjay Verma (30) and Tej Singh (55) - were sitting on a footpath opposite Holy Child School in Sector 12, RK Puram. A speeding car hit them and then rammed into an electric pole before stopping.
Verma died on the spot, while Tej Singh is undergoing treatment, the police said. The driver, Rajan Sharma (32), was arrested and the vehicle was seized.
The police said both men were working in the same company. Verma, a resident of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, was employed as a mechanic, while Tej Singh, a resident of Sonipat, used to work as a driver. Families of both victims have been informed about the incident, the official added.
Earlier in the wee hours of Monday, a 47-year-old man died after being hit by an unknown truck on the Salimgarh flyover in the carriageway from the ISBT Kashmiri Gate to ITO.
As per the police, the man, identified as Mahender, was hit when he stepped out of the vehicle to check a puncture in one of the tyres of the vehicle.
