Malik informed the House that around 2 lakh people lose their lives to kidney related ailments annually. He brought to light the fact that the law surrounding kidney donation allows only close blood relatives such as siblings and children to donate kidneys to the patient and due to limited options under the criteria, millions of precious lives are lost.

Malik suggested the Union Government that in order to protect lives of millions of Indians, the law of kidney donation should be brought to a speedy resolution by broadening the range by allowing distant relatives such as cousins, uncles and aunts who are a part of the patient’s family since birth.
