Sharmila Devi, an alumnus of Hockey Him Academy, has been selected for the Tokyo Olympics for the senior women hockey team.
According to academy vice-president Subash Chander Saklani, this was the biggest dream for the 19-year old player who hails from Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
The team will be leaving for Buenos Aires, Argentina, for training and to play matches in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics -2021 from January 3 to February 4, informed Ved Prakash, general secretary, Him Academy.
Born on October 10, 2001, the 19-year old forward hockey player had earlier played at the Olympic Test Event in Tokyo in 2019 where she had helped her team win the tournament.
Ved Prakash said as many as 6-7 girls from the academy had made it to the India camp in the past four years. Sharmila, who played for two years in the national junior team, has been associated with the academy since 2017.
