The Independence Day event was attended by students, hostel teachers and staff. It began with the hoisting of the national flag by the principal with chief dorm educator. The principal addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of freedom and the responsibilities that come with it. The celebration concluded with the distribution of specially prepared ‘laddoos’ among the students.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
