Going digital in providing migration certificates to Class X and XII students, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to provide soft copies of these certificates on DigiLocker from this year.
The CBSE has decided that hard copy of the Migration Certificate will be issued only to the students who would make a request for the same to the Board. To all other students the soft copy of the certificate will be made available in the DigiLocker after the decalaration of the Board examination results, said Controller of Examinations, CBSE in a letter to all CBSE-affiliated schools.
The decision will help the students seeking admission in the higher education system as they are required to provide the migration certificate and also for web verification of the documents. While the students have the option of getting the hard copy of the migration certificate for the next two years, issuing of the hard copy will be completely discontinued from 2024 examinations, said the controller.
Migration certificate is an important document which indicates that student was the bonafide student of a particular Board. The document is required when a student is changing Board after Class X or after Class XII from one Board to another or when a student seeks admission in the higher education system.
Once the CBSE results are announced, the Board issues the migration certificate to students. CBSE is already providing the pass certificate and mark sheet through DigiLocker.
The CBSE has also eased the norms for getting duplicate educational documents in case these are misplaced, mutilated, lost or stolen. In the existing process for issuing duplicate passing certificate there is need for attestation of the request application from the principal or a gazette officer and the student also needs to publish a notification regarding the loss of certificates in two national dailies. But now doing away with both these conditions, the applicant just has to send a valid copy of photo identification cards like Aadhaar card, driving license, voter card, Bank Pass Book and an application with complete details to the Regional Office concerned of the CBSE, said controller examinations of CBSE.
