Children across region celebrate Lohri, Makar Sankranti


Him Academy Public School, Hiranagar

Another milestone was set by the school as it virtually celebrated its annual function 'Colours of India'. Students of classes I, III, V, VII and IX participated via virtual platform due to the pandemic restrictions. The theme was presented meticulously through spectacular performances in the form of a cultural programme. The students displayed an array of performances like singing, dancing, instrumental and role play. The function was highly appreciated by parents and students. 

Saupin's School, Panchkula

Vibrant celebrations marked the harvest festival of Lohri. Students of the pre-primary wing made cards using peanuts and 'Lohri gift boxes' for their loved ones during their virtual class. In the primary and upper primary wing, 'bhangra' and 'giddha' performances by students charged everyone. Students sang 'boliyan' as a part of the singing competition. They also created a special selfie corner on the theme of Lohri. Principal Jayeta Auddy extended heartiest wishes on the occasion to students and staff. 

Shivalik Public School, Patiala

Lohri was celebrated with enthusiasm on the premises. Students celebrated the festival with exuberance and fanfare via virtual platform. They wore traditional attire and were completely absorbed in the festive spirit. Groundnuts and sweets were also distributed to one and all. To mark the occasion, kids of classes I and II drew Lohri scene and showcased their creativity with the help of peanuts and popcorns. Through this activity, they were made aware about the significance of the festival. The Principal extended her kind wishes to everyone.

St Soldier's School,  Mohali

After a gap of 10 months due to the pandemic, the first day of the session finally commenced for the students classes V to VIII. It was heartening to see students who unexpectedly came in large numbers following all the Covid rules religiously. Arrangements were made by the school to check their body temperature at the gate and sanitizers were kept at different places. Wi-fi campus, censor taps and provision for proper social distancing in their seating plan were also done on priority basis. 

AKSIPS-45 Smart School, Chandigarh

The school held a competition 'colours of passion' wherein children participated in various competitions like fancy dress, dance and storytelling. Children narrated moral stories, dressed up as different community helpers and shook their feet on their favourite songs. They enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

MDAV School, Sector 22, Chandigarh

The school celebrated virtual Lohri and Makar Sankranti with gaiety. Students actively participated in different activities. They sang songs, recited poems and the tiny tots put up a Punjabi dance performance. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, students flew kites. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all the festivals and activities are being celebrated virtually.

Solitaire International School, Panchkula 

The school held patterning and seriation activity for the tiny tots. Besides providing an experiential learning, the objective of the activity was to develop reasoning, analytical and logical thinking among the young ones. After observing the given patterns, students followed the sequence and created their own combinations using toys and other colourful objects. It was a fun-filled learning experience for them.

Dayanand Model Sr Sec School, Jalandhar

Lohri was celebrated with fervour on the school premises. To commemorate the event, a quiz was held on "Punjabi Virsa". The Principal, faculty members and students along with their parents added rewri and groundnuts to the bonfire and prayed for the well being of everyone. All the students were absorbed in the festive spirit and presented songs, bhangra and gidda performances. Songs like 'Dulha Bhatti' and 'Sundar Munderiye' filled everyone with thrill.  Principal S K Gautam greeted the students and encouraged them to value their culture. 

GMSSS, Sector 44, Chandigarh

Students performed an activity under 'Ek Bharat shreshtha Bharat' on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. The programme was held under the supervision of school nodal officer Indu Bala, a lecturer in commerce from GMSSS-44 B, in a virtual mode.

Budha Dal Public School, Patiala

The school organised a virtual intra-section karaoke solo singing competition for the students of Class VI. This was done on the occasion of Lohri. The students participated with enthusiasm. The event was graced by Principal Amrit Aujla, Vice-Principal K K Saxena, teachers and students. The students were dressed up in traditional Punjabi attire. Sehajveer Singh of Class VI bagged the first position, Arshpreet Kaur of Class VI came second, Harshvardhan Singh of Class VI secured the third spot and Mahi Verma of Class VI won the consolation prize.

Yadavindra Public School, Patiala

In another humanitarian act, students of YPS donated groceries and essentials to the needy families of low income groups living near the Police Chowki, Sular road, Patiala. This activity was carried out by the students of Class X. Each and every pupil contributed their share to spread happiness. 

Gurukul Global School, Chandigarh

After the Chandigarh Administration allowed students of classes X and XII to attend school, with parents' consent, the school conducted offline classes. It came up with a hybrid solution to conduct both online and offline lessons. The school followed all the Covid protocols like hand sanitization, thermal screening at the entry gate and wearing of masks and face shields all the time. The staff made sure that the students maintained proper social distance. Around 7 to 10 students were allowed to sit in one room with their name slip pasted on the desks to avoid any confusion. The management left no stone unturned to make the offline and online classes a success.

AKSIPS-41 Smart School, Chandigarh

The students of Class III played a shopping game with their teacher during the online class by making paper currency. They learnt the concept of addition, subtraction and multiplication in order to purchase goods from the shopkeeper. All the students enjoyed the game thoroughly. It was an art-integrated activity where the children learnt how to handle money.
