Students belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS), selected under the rule-134 A of the Haryana School Education Rules, are at the receiving end as private schools have refused to enrol them till the state government does not reimburse the past dues for teaching such children.
Parents of the students have been visiting the schools and the office of the Education Department, but to no avail. Many have lodged complaints with the district authorities of Karnal and Rohtak against the private schools for not giving admissions to their children. “I am a labourer and cannot deposit the fee due to loss of income during the pandemic. I went to the school that has been assigned to my daughter, but I was asked to bring the transfer certificate. I borrowed Rs 20,000 to clear the dues of the school, but I have been told that no admission will be given to my daughter,” said Prithviraj, a resident of Karnal city.
“The district authorities released a revised list of students selected under the rule-134 A on December 16. My grandson, who was earlier enrolled in a government school, was allotted a prominent school of the city. I have been visiting this school for the past four days, but the authorities are not giving him admission. All essential documents, including the school leaving certificate, have been submitted,” said Raj Kumari Dahiya, a resident of Rohtak.
Dr Vijay Laxmi, DEO, Rohtak, said private schools were bound to enrol all students selected under the rule-134 A. “The BEOs have been asked to ensure they get admissions in the schools concerned,” the DEO said.
Rohtash Verma, DEEO, Karnal, said, “Parents approached us saying the private schools are not enrolling their wards. The issue will be resolved. We will write to the Director of the department.”
Dr Rajan Lamba, president, Sahodya Schools Complex, Karnal, said, “We have been told by the Education Department to give admission to EWS students under the rule 134A. However, we are not able to do so, as their dues are not cleared.”
