‘Every student has capability for nation building’

Charanpreet Kaur, Guru Harkrishan Public School, Dera Bassi

Q: What are your plans for the academic session 2020-21 after pandemic situation?

A: The pandemic has drastically changed the situation of academic institutions across the world. Students are now being closely monitored by teachers and parents. The lockdown has affected the lives of everyone so we shall first boost the morale of students and try to achieve the learning objectives of education. More stress will be given on practical teaching, increasing their immunity and maintaining hygiene in the school.

Q: Education is a holistic process. How do you ensure that in your school?

A: Covid or no Covid doesn't matter in our school as learning is a continuous process. The system is devised in such a way that every day we try to make students better than before. They are taught to assess their strengths and how their strength can benefit both themselves and others. Apart from developing academic and extracurricular activities, they are taught to respect others and be helpful to people while working for various noble causes.

Vision for students

  • We want our students to be outstanding in all fields.
  • They should be self-dependent and develop potential to help others.
  • Apart from overall development, they should also become good citizens and human beings.
  • Every student possesses an extraordinary capability for nation building.

Q: What is the teacher-taught ratio in your school?

A: It is 1:30.

Q: How have you incorporated innovative teaching methodology in your classrooms?

A: In the classrooms, teachers use animated PowerPoint presentations and give live demonstrations. They make videos to impart practical teaching. Brain games and Vedic mathematics is also taught. Children also make PowerPoint presentations on different topics.

Q: Any special handholding initiative for under achievers?

A: Students with under performance are given extra time by teachers. Special educators help students with learning and also guide teachers to use relevant methodology for teaching those children. They also demonstrate different technologies for easy learning.

Q: What are the vocation education classes or skill building opportunities given to students in your school?

A: Presently, we are using IT for classes IX and X. We also have clubs like cutting, tailoring, cooking, gardening, eco club and electronics to give vocational training to them. These trades help the students in skill building.
