Sahouli, a sleepy village of Pakhowal block in Ludhiana district, is on its way towards digitization, giving wings to dreams of youngsters from families with modest means. Progressive residents of the village led by Master Hardial Singh Litt have signed an MoU with the TV School Foundation for providing “High Quality Education” to the students of class VIII to XII in the village.
Seventeen-year-old Navjot Kaur nurtures a dream – economic independence. Navjot is a Plus Two student of non-medical stream. Her sister, also a science student, is in Class XI in the medical stream.
When the pandemic broke out, the sisters were very apprehensive. The pandemic seemed to spell the end of their dream to soar high. Luckily, for them they got access to online education and that too free of cost. Some Good Samaritans, which included NRIs from the village, started a digital education centre in the village to provide online education to the poor and needy students of village.
The entire syllabus was covered on smartphones, computers and the students were provided access to the online study. This Full HD study material was made available to the students with unlimited views all the times.
“Harjit Kaur Khera, granddaughter of NRI late Jagdev Singh, has started Guru Nanak Dev Digital Education Centre in the village to provide online education to the poor students of the village who do not have smartphones, PC etc. For this centre, Harjit Kaur donated two LED screens with Brix Micro Computers loaded with study material. In this centre, the village students come to study according to pre-fixed time table,” said Prof Santokh Singh Aujla, MD of TV School Foundation. Prof Aujla added that it’s the beginning of transformation in Education and Sahouli would be a role model for other villages to make their village also free from private tuitions.
Prof. Aujla said the mission of his organisation is to make rural Punjab (private) tuition free within a year.
