GMSSS, Sector 23-A, NYC, Chandigarh, holds ‘Eliminate Plastic Pollution’ campaign

To mark World Environment Day, an awareness campaign themed “Eliminate Plastic Pollution” was organised by the Environment Society of India and the students of the school, under the guidance of NSS Programme Officer Dr Ritu Nangia from the school. Students from GMSSS, Sector 45, and St Anne’s Convent School, Chandigarh, also actively participated in the initiative. The campaign took place in the Sector 7 market, Chandigarh, where students reached out to shopkeepers and members of the public to raise awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastic. Through direct interaction and distribution of informative material, they urged people to replace plastic bags with cloth bags for daily shopping. The public responded positively, with many pledging to reduce their plastic usage and commit to more sustainable practices. The campaign highlighted how single-use plastics, often discarded after one use, significantly contribute to pollution and environmental degradation. The enthusiastic participation and commitment of the students from our school, GMSSS, Sector 45, St Anne’s Convent School, and the leadership of Dr Ritu Nangia are highly commendable. This initiative is a meaningful step toward building a cleaner and greener future by tackling plastic pollution at the grassroots level.
