Sachkeerat Singh of Class IX of the school secured the second position in the prestigious National Meteorological Olympiad conducted by the Indian Meteorological Department under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. He was felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 150th Foundation Day of the IMD. Seven students of GNPS excelled at the state-level competition also. Class XI: Rank 1- Ekampreet Kaur, Rank 2 - Ayush Sharma and Rank 3 - Abhishthi Thakur. Class IX: Rank 2 - Sachkeerat Singh. Class VIII: Rank 1 - Sehajveer Singh, Rank 2 - Pawandeep Singh and Rank 3 - Yashparteek Singh. These seven state-level winners of GNPS represented Chandigarh at the nationals held in Delhi, where Sachkeerat Singh was among the top 9 national winners, clinching the second position. He was honoured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Secretary General of World Meteorological Organisation Prof Celeste Saulo, Director General of India Meteorological Department Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India Pramod Kumar and Secretary of Ministry of Earth Sciences Dr M Ravichandran. The students’ outstanding accomplishments were lauded by president of the GNPS Governing Council JS Bawa, general secretary Prof GS Dhillon, and other esteemed members of the Governing Council and Principal Gurnam Kaur Grewal, upon their return from Delhi.
