Converting her passion for maths into a mission to spread its awareness among children, especially underprivileged children, Indian American student, Shreya Bhandari, recently published a math addition book for kids. Shreya is a student of Class XII at Independence High School in Frisco, Texas, USA which is one of the highly rated schools in the USA. Due to her passion of providing impoverished students with proper education, she decided to buy over 100 copies of her own book using the money she made from tutoring and then donated these to 3 organisations: the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County, Kairos International, and the Ronald McDonald House.
Shreya’s intrinsic motivation is to inspire students to tap into their passion, whether it’s about education, sports, any hobbies such as painting, craft making, or anything in order to contribute to the communities around them.
Shreya has always had a love for math and wanted to share that love with other students.“Writing this book is not only beneficial to young students, but to anyone looking to learn or start learning.” Shreya says.
Commenting on Shreya’s gesture to help the communities, Ronald McDonald House says “Here at the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas (RMHD), our mission is to keep families together, inspire strength, and give love and support to families whose children are receiving essential medical care. We are incredibly grateful for the support of people like Shreya, who help make this mission come to life. Shreya graciously donated more than 40 of her own self-published books to RMHD. We are certain that Shreya’s generosity will make a positive impact on each child who reads her book. Thank you!”
Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County says “Shreya’s effort of first publishing her own book and then donating them to non-profits is highly appreciated and innovative. Through her endeavor, Shreya will be putting a smile on many children’s faces in our Activity Center! We, at Children’s Advocacy Center, very much appreciate Shreya’s humanitarian effort!”
Besides all the work she has done for other students and her community Shreya has plans to grow her impact on her community.
“I plan to buy and donate more copies of my book to more non-profit organisations, and I also plan on writing another book that centers and focuses on the topics I was covering in my previous one.” “I really liked learning and researching about how children learn math and the different ways in which children respond to math work,” Shreya says.
On top of impacting her community, she is also top-ranked in her class, wrote and published international journals, and established the Future Problem Solving Frisco which is a club that aims to solve present and future problems that may occur in her community.
Shreya receives amazing support from her family especially her grandfather, PK Bhandari, who retired as Deputy Economic Advisor to the Punjab government and currently resides in Panchkula.
“If it wasn’t for the support of my family I wouldn’t be able to accomplish the things I have done,” Shreya says. “I really want to be an advocate for my community and to inspire other people like me to have a positive impact on the world.”
