To commemorate its 150th anniversary the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) organised a National Meteorological Olympiad to promote interests and awareness about weather and climate sciences among students. The IMD targeted students from classes VIII, IX and XI, in which two of the school’s students, Akshit Rawat and Diya Yadav, both of Class IX, won the state-level competition and were selected for the national-level contest. The top three state-level winners from each class were invited for a one-day workshop, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the premises of Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The school’s student Akshit Rawat of Class IX represented the Punjab region and won the first prize with the cash prize of Rs 25,000. Diya of Class IX, a state-level winner from the Chandigarh region, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 2,000. The winners were felicitated with trophies and certificates by chief guest Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General, Meteorology, Delhi, at the valedictory function.
