Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal today laid foundation stones for the extension of Government Girls Senior Secondary School building, Mall Road, and a state-of-the-art digital public library in Bathinda.
The Finance Minister said the school would be converted into a four-storey modern building with 65 smart classrooms, 39 labs, an examination hall, playground and other facilities at a cost of Rs 10.50 crore.
The public library would be set up on 1.26 acres in the heart of city at a cost of Rs 7 crore. The library will be equipped with facilities such as conference hall, e-book section, amphitheatre, refreshment corner etc., said the minister, adding it would provide youngsters equal opportunity for growth and development.
Badal said the library was being set up with a vision to providing state-of-the-art infrastructure to researchers and students, offering online journals, e-databases, etc. The digital library would open several growth opportunities for youngsters.
Badal said the city had emerged as a regional hub of education and research, especially with the setting up of various academic institutions.
