Modern Senior Secondary School, Patiala, celebrated Children’s Day with its annual ‘open’ painting competition on at the school grounds. The event welcomed children and young adults from Patiala, Nabha, Samana and nearby areas, aged between 2.5 and 21 years. This year, the competition saw a vibrant turnout of 1,500 participants. The event was graced by Ratna Vira, acclaimed author of four bestselling books — Daughter by court order, It’s not about you, Why people give and Art under the Indian sun. Her artwork has been featured in notable solo and group exhibitions, with collections across India and abroad. Students were divided into five age categories and painted on themes suited to their age group. Senior participants explored topics such as digital addiction and climate change. Middle groups interpreted ideas related to sportsmanship and role models. The younger categories filled the grounds with cheerful scenes of friendship gardens, candy adventures and imaginative toy trees. The morning remained festive, with children enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, food stalls and time spent with friends. The winners were Ravneet Kaur and Mehul of Shivalik Public School from Category-A; Shirleen Kaur and Navraj of Army Public School in Category-B and C; Arunpreet of Sushila Devi Public School and Dhaivik of Modern Senior Secondary School, Patiala, from Category-C, D and E, respectively. The top three winners in each category were awarded cups and certificates. Forty students received certificates of merit and all participants were presented with a participation certificate.
