All growth depends on hard work. There is no development, mental or physical, without effort and effort means hard work. Look at the gymnasts. Hard practice makes their body so supple that it gives the impression of being boneless.
In order to experience the thrill and satisfaction that comes from mastery, musicians and instrumentalists go through hours of ‘riyaaz’ daily. Those who want to have good times go through hard times. The former comes through discipline, effort and training. It is a tested philosophy of life that one must prepare for good results through hard work! The purpose of hard work is to earn leisure.
Work brings out the best in man. It helps in bringing to surface the talents that lie hidden. The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work!
It brings deep inner fulfilment. The task that once looked insurmountable becomes easy. Ease in a task makes it pleasurable. A French writer has said: if you want a thing done give it to a busy man!
This is true of small as well as big things of life. Eating, dressing and arranging things in room all need effort. If neglected, one grows into a slob.
If the right amount of effort is put in, the result shows in a neatly turned-out personality. The room looks tidy. There is a place for everything and everything is in its place.
Take bigger things in life. Many yearn to become international players or athletes. They do not succeed because they want to have good times without going through hard times.
Take writing. It is amazing and amusing that one is willing to join a school to learn to play the violin, practices for long hours, but when it comes to writing, he thinks mastery should come naturally to him. Small minds have desires. Great ones have goals”, says Emerson. The achiever goes through the grind and prepares the ground for future success. Rest is rust. Bears in mind Benjamin Franklin’s words, “Up sluggard and waste not life. In the grave will be sleeping enough.”
Hard work does not affect health. No one ever breaks from work directed towards the attainment of a cherished goal. People break from worry or dissipation.
Circumstances do play their role, but it is reaction to adverse circumstances which matters. It is for you to decide whether these will turn frustrating times to good times. Good fortune is the offspring of effort.
The force, the heart and the soul that you put into work is the most important factor as no law of success works unless you do!
