The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the state, in collaboration with the National Health Systems Resource Centre, has released a new Covid-19 prevention and management protocol for children.

As per the protocol, children over two years of age should be trained for Covid-appropriate behaviour, including washing hands regularly and maintaining social distancing.

The government spokesperson said the children above the age of five years should also be taught how to wear a mask before going out.

The spokesperson informed that children with malnutrition, disability, immune-compressed diseases such as HIV or with any underlined cardiac, liver and kidney problems were at much higher risk than a healthy child.

“The major symptoms seen in a suspected case of Covid in children are similar to symptoms in adults. These include fever or chills, cough, nasal congestion or running nose, loss of taste or smell shortness of breath or difficult breathing, diarrhoea and poor appetite,” said he added.
