Designer masks — how trendy

Aaina Saini, Class X, Yadavindra Public School, Patiala

We had the roaring twenties. Now the MASK-ing Twenty Twenties!!!

Face masks have become a necessity during these pandemic times and while the researchers vare looking for more effective masks, the fashion industry is ensures that they are trendy!

It is ironical how something that we need to wear for our safety can emerged as a fashion statement! Even though it ensures people wear a mask how do we really feel to see something associated with the tragedy and horrors of a pandemic to be trending as the latest fashion accessory?

Knowing that we will need to wear masks in the foreseeable future, people and brands are both ensuring that they fit right into their outfits. ‘Givenchy’ even released its own mask and cap combos, but it’s not a recommended buy as it is definitely going to set you £425 back.

The craze for matching masks and designer masks is highlighted by the fact that fashion magazine,’Vogue’, has released a compilation of 1,000 aesthetically pleasing mask selections!

Wearing masks everywhere is such a foreign concept to all of us that everyone is going to embrace it differently. They are practical but also make a compelling reflection of our mood and aesthetics. As masks become a part of our lives, maybe the uneasiness surrounding them will fade away too. Soon, they will be seen as a regular fashion accessory, just like sunglasses. After all, masks aren’t the first functional things in our wardrobe to become chic!

The concept of minting money from masks might be really desperate but these are the kind of opportunities that arise from a crisis. Soon people will need multiple masks in rotation especially as things begin to open back up. Having a mask that matches exactly is a fun fashion move. Considering what mask to wear will soon become a part of planning an outfit!

Even though the commodification of and capitalisation of a healthcare item feels like murky ethical territory to me, I would still endorse a beautiful mask just to keep out of that beautiful coffin.  No mask is the absolute worst!

If seeing a mask as a style can prompts people to wear a mask, there is nothing wrong in being safe and chic. When you come out in a stylish mask or a visually pleasing accessory as a pretty mask, it doesn't seem as though we are fighting a war. It seems more fun!

# Gratitude during covid

Aanannya Goyal, Class VII, Delhi Public School, Khanna

IN THE TIME OF CORONA: WHEN CHINA CURSED THE WORLD WITH A VICIOUS VIRUS.

There was excitement in the air among children in anticipation of the post-examination break in March. We were looking forward to a colourful spring amid nature. I was eagerly awaiting an uninterrupted playtime. An unbridled time where there will be no studies or homework and the weather at it's best. But as soon as we short-listed the things to do in the break, the coronavirus pandemic 'arrived'  making everyone stay indoors.

Firstly, I thought coronavirus wouldn't hit India but no soon it spread like a wildfire here. Within a short time, it became the talk of the town. It became a worldwide tension. Even in my wildest dreams,  I had never imagined the dangerous spread of the disease all across the world.

"There is no treatment or vaccine." This sentence scares me to death! A new term social distancing  became the buzz word. I too feel that this is the only way out from this dreadful situation.

On the other hand, I was starving for fun as I didn't know what to do while locked up in my home. As some my friends' online classes had started, I was also expecting mine to start soon. But there was no update. I tried keeping myself engaged by playing board games with my family,  but still it was not as fun as playing with my friends. I could not invite my buddies to my house neither could I go to the park to play. There was only one word stuck to my tongue,' I'm getting bored'. But then, I enrolled myself in to many extra online classes like 'vedantu' , 'whithat Jr' and 'Byjus' etc.

Nonetheless, I am happy that my mother and father are at home, earlier they used to be out for work. Life is so much happier with our loved ones around. Nature, too, has taken her revenge in her own style. Now we know who the real boss is. Huh!

Many many years from now, when we look at COvid-19 pandemic period as a page in a history book, the lessons that we learnt today will remain and keep guiding us to a better future.

This corona time has also made is realise who the real heroes are which will stand by us in our difficult times.

 Guess who they are.
