Education involves a right balance of academic and co-curricular activities. How is your institution providing this balance to students?

At YPS, Patiala, academics form the foundation of our educational approach, but we equally emphasise the importance of co-curricular activities. We believe that true education extends beyond the classroom, which is why we mandate participation in co-curricular activities through inbound or outbound activities. These activities are essential in every aspect of our students’ growth, preparing them to excel in all facets of life.

What are the assessment practices used in the school?

At YPS, we emphasise both assessment for learning and assessment of learning to ensure a holistic understanding of students’ progress. Class tests, including quizzes, short answer questions, MCQs and other creative assessments help gauge concept clarity and provide immediate feedback. End-of-term exams assess students’ deep understanding and assimilation of concepts, fostering both academic excellence and comprehensive subject mastery.

Sports and co-curricular activities are integral to our students’ holistic development. Participation in these programmes is mandatory, ensuring that every student is actively engaged. Our school offers a diverse range of sports and co-curricular activities, with opportunities for both inbound and outbound participation. Students are involved in a structured morning and evening schedule, and they regularly compete in inter-house and inter-school events. This comprehensive approach cultivates physical fitness, teamwork, and leadership skills, preparing our students for success both on and off the field.

NEP 2020 has laid special emphasis on vocational skills and entrepreneurship. How is your school providing these two through curriculum?

At YPS, Patiala, we integrate the NEP 2020’s focus on vocational skills and entrepreneurship across all levels. In the Foundation Wing, we foster practical life skills through experiential and play-based learning. As students’ progress to the Junior and Senior Wings, they engage in advanced programmes like Robotics, AI, 3D Printing, project-based learning and skill-building exercises gaining hands-on experience. Our curriculum also emphasises public speaking, leadership, and teamwork through co-curricular activities and community service. These initiatives cultivate entrepreneurial mind sets, preparing students to navigate and excel in the modern world, blending academic excellence with practical, real-world skills..

As head of this institution what is your vision and how you are making it a reality?

As the Headmaster of YPS, my vision is to drive transformative change across multiple dimensions to help our students become the best versions of themselves.

Central to this vision is the development of strong character and a solid value system in our students. Academically, we aim to set new standards by enhancing classroom learning, integrating cutting-edge research into our curriculum, and revisiting our IT strategies to stay ahead of technological advancements. I also plan to expand our sports and co-curricular programmes, ensuring students excel in team sports and leadership.

I am committed to providing international exposure, strengthening our boarding system, and fostering leadership opportunities. Our staff’s professional development is crucial to achieving these goals, as a well-equipped team will nurture our students better.

Additionally, I value strong partnerships with parents and a robust alumni network to inspire and support our current students.

Motto of your school and how are students being trained to follow it?

The School motto — Vidya, Vinay, Veerta (Wisdom, Virtue, Valour) — is at the heart of Yadavindra Public School’s mission. We train our students to embody these values through a balanced education that fosters intellectual growth, moral integrity, and courage. Whether in academics, sports, or co-curricular activities, our students learn to live by these principles, preparing them to lead with wisdom, character, and strength.

What measures has the school taken to help students cope with stress and to develop their EQ?

At YPS, students’ emotional well-being and resilience are as important as their academic success. We have implemented key initiatives to help them manage stress and develop emotional intelligence (EQ). Our school counsellor provides personalised support, guiding students through challenges and building their emotional resilience. A strong pastoral care system and regular tutorial sessions ensure students feel secure, supported, and able to communicate openly with mentors. Community service and NSS activities foster empathy and social responsibility, while NCC and other co-curricular programmes instil discipline, teamwork, and leadership — essential skills for managing stress and enhancing EQ.
