Principal Speak: Empowering students to become compassionate, confident, forward-thinking global citizens
Education involves a right balance of academic and co-curricular activities. How is your institution providing this balance to students?
At Gian Jyoti Global School, we ensure a balanced education by integrating academics with co-curricular activities. Our students excel in academics through innovative teaching, while engaging in sports, arts, and skill-based programmes that foster creativity, leadership, and teamwork, thereby promoting overall growth and preparing them for future challenges.
Motto of your school and how are students being trained to follow it?
The motto of Gian Jyoti Global School is “Charhdi Kala”, which signifies a state of everlasting optimism, resilience, and positivity. To instil this spirit in our students, we emphasise values, such as perseverance, self-discipline, and a positive attitude in both academic and co-curricular activities. Through leadership programmes, community service, sports, and daily interactions, students are encouraged to face challenges with courage and maintain a hopeful outlook. Our holistic approach ensures that they develop the strength of character to stay motivated and optimistic in all situations, embodying the true essence of “Charhdi Kala”.
NEP-2020 has laid special emphasis on vocational skills and entrepreneurship. How is your school providing these through curriculum?
At Gian Jyoti Global School, in alignment with NEP-2020, we have integrated vocational skills and entrepreneurship into our curriculum to equip students with practical, real-world skills. Through workshops, hands-on projects, and skill-based programmes, students are exposed to areas, such as digital literacy, design thinking, and vocational training. Our Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) promotes innovation and problem-solving, encouraging students to think creatively and develop entrepreneurial mind sets. Additionally, we offer role-play sessions, business simulations, and mentorship programmes that cultivate leadership, business acumen, and a spirit of entrepreneurship from an early age.
What Assessment practices are being used in your school?
At Gian Jyoti Global School, our assessment practices are diverse and student-centred. We use a combination of pen-and-paper tests, oral assessments, and term exams to evaluate academic progress. Regular quizzes, projects, and assignments also play a key role in tracking students’ understanding. Co-curricular activities and classroom assignments are assessed regularly to ensure a holistic approach. Continuous feedback is provided to help students improve, ensuring they excel both academically and personally, while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Sports and co-curricular activities for students.
We prioritise sports and co-curricular activities as essential for students’ holistic development. We offer a wide range of sports such as cricket, roller skating, basketball, volleyball, kho-kho, and athletics to foster physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline. Additionally, students engage in activities like music, dance, drama, and art, which nurture creativity and self-expression. Clubs and societies focused on public speaking, robotics, and environmental awareness further enrich their learning experience. Many of our students have achieved laurels in various sporting and co-curricular events at both district and state levels. We also have an Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) to encourage innovation and creativity, where students explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through hands-on projects.
What measures has the school taken to help students cope with stress and to develop their EQ?
We take several measures to help our students manage stress and develop their emotional quotient (EQ). We have a dedicated counselling department that offers one-on-one sessions, helping students navigate academic pressures and personal challenges. Regular workshops on mindfulness, meditation, and stress management techniques are conducted to equip students with tools for emotional balance. To foster emotional intelligence, we integrate social-emotional learning into the curriculum, teaching students empathy, self-awareness, and effective communication skills. Peer interaction programmes, group activities, and leadership roles are provided to develop teamwork and relationship management, further enhancing their EQ.
As head of this institution what is your vision and how you are making it a reality?
As the head of Gian Jyoti Global School, now proudly celebrating 50 years of excellence in education, my vision is to foster a nurturing environment where academic achievement, innovation, and holistic development are at the forefront. Inspired by our Founder Director Principal Ranjeet Bedi, who laid the foundation of this institution with a focus on integrity and well-rounded growth, and guided by our Chairman JS Bedi’s commitment to excellence, we strive to empower students to become compassionate, confident, and forward-thinking global citizens. We are bringing this vision to life by integrating a balanced curriculum that combines academic rigor with co-curricular activities, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence. Ranked as the third best school in the Tricity by the Times Survey, we continue to evolve, preparing our students to face future challenges with resilience and confidence.
