Education, Language, Art and Culture Minister Govind Singh Thakur said the National Education Policy (NEP) would provide cultured and vocational education to children.
Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating Government Senior Secondary School at Shirad in Manali on Sunday, he said that the new policy was capable of reducing the so-called gap between private and government schools.
Many schemes had been implemented for the children in government schools and these schools had trained teachers who provide better education to the children. He had studied in a government school and many great personalities were the product of the schools.
The leader said the school building had been constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore and Class XI and XII would start from this session. With the upgrade of the school, the children would not have to go to Katrain or Raison. He said 17 new schools had been opened or upgraded in Manali in four years.
There had been an unprecedented development in Manali. He said, “Navodaya Vidyalaya in Bandrol and Polytechnic Institute in Seobagh are our contributions.” Hundreds of the youth of the constituency have got employment in paragliding and river-rafting. Employment opportunities had been provided to thousands of youth by developing tourist places. A 100-bed hospital was being built in Manali. A community health centre is being constructed at Patlikuhl at Rs 8 crore, which will benefit a large population of the area.
The minister said a DPR of Rs 10 crore had been sent for the approval for the construction of the Babeli-Jindaur road. The expansion work on the Shirad-Beasar-Ramshila road at Rs 31 crore was in progress. The work on Raison bridge was in progress.
The students presented colourful cultural performances. Principal Nivedita Sood welcomed the chief guest and SMC head Rewat Ram put forth demands for the school.
