Following Covid protocol, private and government schools reopened on Friday after a gap of around three months for Classes IX to XII.

All the 176 government schools in the district remained open, but a large number of private schools in the city have opted to open schools from Monday. In rural areas, private schools were open, but had thin attendance.

As many as 6,500 students out of the total registered 40,761 students turned up in 176 government schools in the district.

The rise in Covid cases had forced the state government to close educational institutes in April. As cases have now started declining, the state government decided to reopen schools for physical classes from Classes IX to XII from July 16 after the written consent from parents. Classes of VI to VIII will start from July 23.

“On the first day today, attendance was thin. But we are hopeful that students will go to school in the coming days. I, along with 17 teams, visited 146 schools today and found that the SOP for Covid was followed. The majority of students had brought consent letters of their parents,” said Rajpal, District Education Officer (DEO).

Jatinder Kumar, a teacher, said that they have maintained proper gap between students. Thermal scanning of all the students was conducted, followed by hand sanitisation at the entrance of the school. Students and teachers weren’t given entry without mask.

Meanwhile, 20 per cent of the students attended schools in Hisar district. In Gurugram, schools opened with thin attendance. Of the people who came to the schools, most were new admission cases.

As per the data of government schools in Ambala, around 20 per cent students attended classes. Almost 25 per cent students turned up at government schools in Jhajjar. In Kaithal, 30 per cent students attended classes.

Schools witnessed around 30 per cent students’ strength on the first day in Panipat today, Ramesh Kumar, DEO, said.

In Sonepat, 50 per cent students were called by the teachers on the first day, but only 35-40 per cent students reached the schools. DEO Bijender Narwal said SOP issued by the government was followed during the reopening of schools.
