The state government had provided scholarships to the tune of Rs 96 lakh to 782 Divyangjan in 2020-21, Vivek Bhatia, Director, Scheduled Caste, Minorities and Backward Class and Specially Abled Empowerment Department, said here today.

Presiding over the state-level International Disability Day function at the Gaiety Theatre, he said the state government was providing vocational education to the Divyangjan for provision of livelihood. The training was provided free of cost and stipend was also given to them.

Four per cent reservation to specially abled persons in Class I to IV had been provided by the government, besides encouraging self-employment ventures. Disability relief allowance was being provided to 66,032 persons in the state, without any income criteria, to bring them into the mainstream and give them opportunity to lead productive and dignified lives, Bhatia added.
