Students celebrate Lohri, Makar Sankranti, observe Army Day


St Xavier's High School, Mohali

Lohri was celebrated with exuberance. Students were in an upbeat mood and immersed in the festive spirit by presenting folk dances and folk songs. Students decorated plates for Lohri celebration and took part in various art and craft activities keeping the tradition and culture of our festivities alive.

Delhi Public School, Chandigarh

The school organised an engaging number game ‘Jumble Dumble with Numbers’ for the Pre-Primary wing. Children participated enthusiastically and carefully listened to the instructions. As the games involved a lot of movement and drama, the children enjoyed while learning. This activity helped children improve their listening skills and also made them feel that numbers were interesting, easy and fun.

Amity International School, Mohali

To celebrate the spirit of patriotism, students put together a special assembly to celebrate the National Army. Patriotic group songs and speeches resounded on Amity’s virtual platform on the 73rd Indian Army Day. Amitians celebrated Army Day with fervour and paid tribute to the Indian Army. Students shared countless stories of valour and selfless sacrifices of the Indian soldiers which filled everyone with pride. Principal Urvashi Kakkar expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the soldiers and emphasised that one must never forget the invincible spirit and valour of the heroes who sacrifice their lives for our safety.

MDAV School, Chandigarh

The health club organised first aid box making activity and discussion on ‘Need of First Aid’ in our life. Students of classes III to X virtually participated in the activity. Teachers motivated the students to learn about first aid and how they can help to an injured before a trained medical professional arrives to administer a specialised treatment.

Oakridge International School, Mohali     

Students made equipment prototypes for astronauts. Now the blue prints of these modes are sent to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.  Oakridge students have designed sports equipment for space and a model of plank mat that allows astronauts to stay attached to the mat. Another student created a model of handball that help fast passing in the space with its magnetic effect. Principal Ramanjit Ghuman said OIS is a part of Nord Anglia Education and began its remarkable journey into exploring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math) education through the collaboration with the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This collaboration offers students an opportunity to engage in designing space food, recreational activities, and sporting and exercise equipment for astronauts in the International Space Station.

Spring Dale Convent Senior Secondary School, Jawali   

The school celebrated Army Day with pomp and organised an online competition. Principal Dr Rajeev Nirayal congratulated children on Army Day and asked them to always remember the sacrifices made by our soldiers.

Mount Carmel School, Mohali

Tiny-tots of KG-A and KG-B participated in a virtual winter activity 'Snowman with cotton and earbuds'.  Students made beautiful craft work under the guidance of their teacher. They all were excited and fully involved during the online activity.

AKSIPS-125 Smart School, Kharar

An online dance session was scheduled for Class Nursery through Zumba buzz where mothers participated along with their kids. Helping our children stay active is important for everyone's physical and mental health,' said Principal Jagjit Sekhon. The school encouraged parents to incorporate any activity into their own routines.

AKSIPS-65 Smart School, Mohali 

KG students participated in a show-and-tell activity on the theme ‘Trees -Our best buddies’. Students spoke confidently highlighting the importance of trees and how they support human life. Colourful props, creativity and spontaneity added colours to the event. Associate Director Parnika Singh and Principal Rajminder Kaur Jaitla appreciated the sincere efforts put in by toddlers to create awareness.

St Joseph’s Sr Sec School , Chandigarh

Students of Class IX marked Army Day by conducting an online poster making competition entitled – ‘My salute to Indian soldiers’. The competition was organised by Ashoka House. The idea behind the competition was to make students aware of the Army and its soldiers. Students made beautiful posters and wrote touching messages for the soldiers. Shaurya Sethi, Vinayak Verma and Arshad Khan stood first, second and third, respectively. Akshat Sharma and Angad Singh got consolation for their creative skills. E-certificates were given to artistic young students.

 Ryan International School, Mohali

A fruit salad making competition was held for Montessori students. The objective behind the competition was to inculcate healthy food habits and awareness regarding the choice of food among the youth. The participants' creativity was revealed through the beautiful designs and patterns formed with different mouthwatering salad. Students displayed copious types of both vegetable and fruit salads such as combo salad, jumbo salad and many more ingenious salads using commonly available ingredients. The participants were explained about the importance of including salad in our regular diet for maintaining good health and keeping diseases at bay.

AKSIPS-41 Smart School, Chandigarh 

Students of Class III played a shopping game during an online class by making paper currency. They learnt the concept of addition, subtraction and multiplication in order to purchase goods from the shopkeeper. It was an art integrated activity where the children learnt how to handle money practically while shopping.

NRI Public School, Dera Bassi

Lohri was celebrated with exuberance and fanfare. The mood was upbeat and the children and staff actively immersed in the festive spirit. Poonam Rani, a teacher of the Primary wing, delivered a speech highlighting the significance of the festival. Folk songs were played. Principal Kiran Singh extended her best wishes and said "Festivals help to spread cheer and are welcomed by one and all".

Sri Guru Gobind Singh Collegiate Public School, Chandigarh

The school celebrated the Founder's Day by observing Akhand Path on the premises. Due to Covid-19, students did not participate in the event. Sikh Educational Society president Gurdev Singh Brar and secretary Col Jasmer Singh Bala released the annual magazine "Falcon" online. Principal Amanpreet Kaur congratulated everyone on the occasion.

Dayanand Model Sr Sec School, Jalandhar

The school organised a Bhangra competition for classes Nursery to UKG. Children displayed their brilliant dancing skills. They were dressed in enticing traditional Punjabi attire. It was a joy watching children explore the rich culture of Punjab. Principal Dr SK Gautam encouraged the participants. He reiterated that such events must be organised regularly.

Manav Rachna International School, Mohali

Children of Early Years and Class I were sensitised about the importance of the Indian Army and their selfless contribution to maintain our country’s safety and security. The children saluted the greatness of the Indian Armed forces during their online sessions to mark their respect for the brave Army officers. Students of classes III to V celebrated National Army Day to honour our brave soldiers. Students of classes II and III were introduced with the unknown facts of Indian Army Day and discussed the ' Gallantry Awards' during their library session.

Sky World School, Panchkula

The school celebrated Lohri and Makar Sankranti with enthusiasm. The staff members were also absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri and paid homage to the bonfire during Lohri puja. Students celebrated virtual Lohri. Various fun-filled games and activities were held and the importance of the festival was highlighted. Students shared facts about the harvest festivals of Pongal and Makar Sankranti.
