Kolkata is a city that just does not welcome you, it embraces you. Every time I step into its lanes, I feel a tug at my heart, as if the city whispers, “I have been here before.” Maybe it’s the rhythm of the humming Bengali notes, the laughter spilling out of its tea stalls, or the timeless beauty of Howrah Bridge. For me it's not a destination but more like an emotion.

This time, my journey led me to its grand Durga Puja pandals, all across its bustling streets, which were vibrant and brimming with warmth. The vibe around was both spiritual and traditional. The simplicity of people, their stories, and their faith reminded me of how joy can thrive and give a deep sense of longing and nostalgia of the festival with anticipation thrown in.

As the 10-day celebrations of Durga Puja unfolded, the entire city was transformed into a living poem. Every street became a pandal, every heart a prayer. The fragrance of incense mingled with laughter and beats of the dhak, as Maa Durga stood adorned in her divine elegance — strength and serenity personified.

And then came the biryani prasad — a stunner in every sense. The aroma of saffron and ghee, the softness of the potatoes (the signature of Kolkata biryani), and the devotion with which it was served made it sacred. At that moment, food became faith.

Kolkata, to me, isn’t just a place I visit — it’s a feeling I carry back every time. A reminder that beauty lies in faith, flavour, and in the familiar warmth of people who make you feel at home, even miles away from your own.
