44 today: Afridi puts a third year of birth in public domain
New Delhi, March 1
Officially, Shahid Afridi turned 41 today.
However, on Twitter, he wrote today: “Thank you very much for all the lovely birthday wishes — 44 today! My family and my fans are my biggest assets.”
His good health at age 44 is also a good asset, for he continues to play in the Pakistan Super League for Multan Sultans. However, his declaring himself as 44 today has caused further confusion about his actual age.
Afridi had revealed in his book that he was 19 when he made his debut for Pakistan in 1996. However, for long his age at the time of his debut has been recorded as 16.
According to the International Cricket Council’s official website, Afridi was born on March 1, 1980, which makes him 41 officially.
In his memoir titled Game Changer, Afridi had revealed that he was 19 years old when he made his debut, not 16. He also revealed in the book that he was born in 1975 — but that only added to the confusion, because if he were born in 1975, he would have been 21 at debut, not 19 and certainly not 16.
Today’s revelation, that he turned 44 today, means that he was actually born in 1977 — this adds a third year of his birth in public domain — his three years of birth now are 1975, 1977 and 1980. It’s anybody’s guess what the truth is. — TNS
