Viswanathan Anand won the Sparkassen Trophy after playing out a draw in his fourth and final round against long-time rival Vladimir Kramnik of Russia today. Anand, a former world champion, settled for a draw in 40 moves to win the match 2.5-1.5. The Indian maestro won the opening game of the series.

Lewis Hamilton won his home British Grand Prix for a record-extending eighth time despite a 10-second penalty for a first lap collision that sent Red Bull rival Max Verstappen crashing out of the race. The Mercedes driver is now only eight points behind Verstappen after 10 races.
