India’s Anahat Singh, Shaurya Bawa enter fourth round of World Junior Squash
New Delhi: India’s Anahat Singh and Shaurya Bawa entered the fourth round of the World Junior Squash Championships in Houston in the girls’ and boys’ sections, respectively. Reigning women’s national champion Anahat defeated Samantha Jaffe of the US 11-7, 12-10, 11-6 in the third round. She will meet Japan’s Akari Midorikawa for a place in the quarterfinals. Bawa rallied to beat USA’s Rustin Wiser 4-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-6 in the third round and will lock horns with Segundo Portabales of Argentina next.

Bhavtegh in contention for final berth in Jr World Cup
Skeet marksman Bhavtegh Singh Gill enjoyed a near-perfect opening day of qualification, shooting down 74 out of 75 targets to finish in sole third spot in the ISSF Junior World Cup in Porpetto, Italy. All 68 competitors will come back on Monday to complete the two final qualification rounds before the top six head into the final. India have so far clinched a bronze medal in the competition through Sabeera Haris in women’s trap.

BCCI releases Rs 1 crore for treatment of Gaekwad
The BCCI has decided to release Rs 1 crore for the treatment of former India coach Anshuman Gaikwad, who is battling blood cancer. BCCI’s decision has come following emotional appeals for support from former captain Kapil Dev and Sandip Patil. Gaekwad, son of former India captain DK Gaekwad, is undergoing treatment for blood cancer at the King’s College Hospital in London. The 71-year-old played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 1975 and 1987.

Minnu to lead India A across formats against Australia A
Off-spinner Minnu Mani will lead the India ‘A’ Women with Shweta Sehrawat as her deputy during the multi-format tour of Australia beginning August 7. India are scheduled to play three T20s, three 50-over ties and a four-day clash against Australia ‘A’ during the upcoming tour. The squad also consists of Sajana Sajeevan, Uma Chetry and Saika Ishaque.

Sub-junior hockey north zone championship in Jhansi
The second edition of Hockey India’s sub junior men’s and women’s North Zone Championship will be held in Jhansi from Monday with the final slated to be played on July 22. The teams competing in the men’s category are Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttarakhand in Pool A, and UP, Punjab, Delhi and J & K in Pool B. In the women’s category, the competing teams are Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal, Chandigarh and Uttarakhand.

Uruguay beat Canada to finish third at Copa America
