New Delhi, January 18
Union Minister Arjun Munda was elected the president of the Archery Association of India (AAI). In the elections held today, Munda defeated BVP Rao by polling 34 votes, which was 16 more than his opponent’s tally.
Clean sweep
It was a clean sweep for Munda panel, whose candidates won all the 19 available posts. Promod Chandurkar will be the AAI’s new secretary general, while Rajendar Singh Tomar has been elected for the post of AAI treasurer. Former Haryana minister Captain Abhimanyu has been elected senior vice president of the body.
“Securing full quota places in the women’s category for Tokyo Olympics, preparing the Indian team for the Tokyo Olympics, lifting ban on the AAI, setting up more archery academies and generating funds are on our priority list,” Munda said in a statement.
Fresh elections were necessitated after World Archery (WA) had suspended AAI after its two factions held different elections. But today, WA’s representative Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol was confident that the suspension will be lifted soon. — TNS
