Boxing body postpones election
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has postponed its March 28 election on Wednesday. In an official communication sent to all its state units, the BFI president Ajay Singh said that the postponement was necessitated after the returning officer paused it following two court orders.
“This is to inform you that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Boxing Federation of India, which was scheduled to be held on 28.03.2025, stands postponed,” Singh wrote in his letter.
“The decision has been necessitated following order dated 21.03.2025 issued by Hon’ble Justice RK Gauba (retd), the returning officer appointed to conduct the BFI elections for the tenure 2025-2029. The Ld. Returning officer has observed that in light of the court orders and the resulting mandated additions to the electoral college list, it is practically impossible to continue and complete the election process within the originally planned timelines as per model election code,” he added.
Last Wednesday, the Delhi High Court stayed BFI president’s office order that excluded DABA nominees from taking part in the AGM. Similarly, the Himachal High Court ruled in favour of the HPBA and directed the BFI to include former sports minister Anurag Thakur’s in the electoral college and extend the last date of submission of nominations so that he gets a chance to file his nomination.
