Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee achieved another first for Indian table tennis by assuring themselves of a medal at the Asian Championships. The Mukherjees, who had beaten the world champions from China on way to a historic bronze at Asian Games last year, bounced back to beat South Korea’s Kim Nayeong and Lee Eunhye 10-12 11-7 11-9 11-8 in the quarterfinals. In the men’s singles, Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah exceeded expectations to reach the pre-quarterfinals.

Germany’s rebuilding appears to be on the right track. Denis Undav scored twice and the four-time World Cup winners extended their unbeaten record in the Nations League to three matches after a convincing 2-1 win at Bosnia-Herzegovina. Reduced to 10 men, Netherlands managed a 1-1 draw in Hungary.

Peru won their first match in South American World Cup qualifying by beating Uruguay 1-0. Miguel Araujo scored with a header in the 88th minute, and Peru moved out of last place in the South American standings.
