India’s Jeev Milkha Singh opened the Zambia Golf Legends Championship with a round of even-par 72 for a tied-19th place. Playing on a windy day, with only 18 players going under par, Jeev had one birdie and one bogey in his first six holes. Jeev is hosting a Legend Tour event in India next week.

Aditi exits early, Lee and Khang share lead

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok carded a 3-over 75 in the second round to make an early exit from the Women’s Scottish Open. Aditi, a five-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, had an 81 in the first round. At the top, Minjee Lee and Megan Khang share the lead on 8-under.

Lahiri shoots even-par, 38th in Liv Golf Greenbrier

India’s Anirban Lahiri had one bogey and one birdie in his opening round of even-par 70 at Liv Golf Greenbrier after the first day of the 54-hole event here. Lahiri was tied-38th in a field of 54. Talor Gooch grabbed a share of the first-round lead, shooting a bogey-free 7-under 63, which was matched by Jason Kokrak and Sebastian Munoz.

Grand chess tour: Pragg finishes last, Firouzja wins

Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanadhaa produced an improved effort in the blitz section but it did not help him avoid a last place finish in the Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz tournament. On the last day of the event, Praggnanadhaa ended up with eight points in blitz, an improvement from the four points he logged in rapid category earlier. Alireza Firouzja of France emerged as the winner. It was a dominating performance from Firouzja who won the event with two rounds to spare.

Half-centuries power SA to 239-run lead over WI

Aiden Markram and Kyle Verreynne hit half-centuries on Friday in the South Africa second innings to help give the Proteas a 239-run lead after the second day of the second Test. At stumps, South Africa was 223/5 after scoring 160 in their first innings. West Indies were all out for 144 in its first innings. Markram scored 50 and Verreynne was unbeaten on 51.

The Durand Cup derby between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, scheduled at the Salt Lake Stadium here tomorrow, has been cancelled because of the prevailing unrest in the city. The decision was taken following a meeting between the Kolkata Police officials and organisers of the tournament.

Bayern Munich comfortably dispatched second-tier Ulm 4-0 in the German Cup but three other Bundesliga teams all needed extra time or penalties to overcome lower-tier opposition on a night of near upsets. Thomas Muller scored twice in the first 15 minutes for Bayern before Kingsley Coman and substitute Harry Kane added two more late on to give new coach Vincent Kompany a win in his first competitive game in charge.
