Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli has been admitted to a hospital here due to deterioration in his health. The 52-year-old was brought to the hospital by one of his fans who also owns the hospital in Bhiwandi’s Kalher area in Thane district and his condition is said to be stable, even though the exact reasons for his hospitalisation could not be ascertained.

Lifter Sanjana wins 2 medals at Asian Junior Championships
Indian weightlifter Sanjana claimed silver medals in both the 76kg youth and junior women’s sections at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships. Sanjana completed all six of her lifts, with a best snatch of 90kg and a clean and jerk of 120kg. Kazakhstan’s Zhumagali Ayanat won the gold medal with a total lift of 215kg (94+121). With this, India’s medal tally rose to eight.

Erigaisi gets US visa for chess World Championships
Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi breathed a sigh of relief after receiving his US visa to compete in the upcoming World Rapid and Blitz Championships in New York, beginning December 26. The world No. 4 Indian had appealed to the US Embassy on Friday to expedite the process of granting him the visa to participate in the tournament, which will feature top players such as Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Boris Gelfand.

Arsenal coach says Saka out for weeks with injury
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka is expected to be out for “many weeks” with a hamstring injury, manager Mikel Arteta said. Saka limped off during the first half of Arsenal’s 5-1 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday and was pictured leaving the stadium on crutches after the match. Arsenal are third in the Premier League heading into the busy Christmas schedule, with a home game against Manchester United in the FA Cup and the League Cup semifinals against Newcastle also on the horizon in January.

Pakistan complete sweep of ODI series against SA
Pakistan completed a 3-0 sweep of their ODI series against South Africa, winning the third match by 36 runs under the DLS method. Opener Saim Ayub hit 101 runs in 94 balls as Pakistan scored 308/9 at the Wanderers in a game reduced to 47 overs by rain. South Africa were all out for 271 in 42 overs in pursuit of a winning target of 308. Heinrich Klaasen top-scored for the hosts with 81 runs in 43 balls. Pakistan spinner Sufiyan Muqeem took 4/52.

NorthEast United FC came from two goals behind to secure a 5-2 victory against Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) here on Monday. Hyderabad FC, who had conceded six goals after the 60th minute mark this season prior to this match, added three more to that tally as NorthEast United FC struck thrice in the final 30-odd minutes. NorthEast United FC climbed to the sixth spot, while Hyderabad stayed in the 12th place in the standings.
