Canada pull out of Kho Kho World Cup

Canada have pulled out of the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup that is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from January 13 to 19. Canada had informed the Kho-Kho Federation of India (KKFI) that they were unwilling to travel to India amidst the rising diplomatic tensions between the two nations.

“Canada will not come because of worsening relationships between our countries. They had informed us of this decision almost two months ago,” KKFI president Sudhanshu Mittal said.

“Their team consists solely of natives and not from our diaspora so they thought it was not in their interest to travel to India,” he added.

Another team that may not travel for the World Cup is Pakistan. However, unlike Canada, the Pakistan team has applied for visa to travel to New Delhi for the tournament. “The Pakistan team has applied for a visa and we are hopeful that they will be able to participate,” Mittal said.

On Friday, the KKFI unveiled the trophies for both the men’s and women’s events. Further, the two mascots Tejas and Tara were also introduced.
