A day after Hockey India’s decision to withdraw from next year’s Commonwealth Games, the Commonwealth Games Federation has said that they are in touch with the Indian body and they will try to “understand and alleviate any concerns they have”.

Hockey India president Gyanendro Ningombam cited the 10 days of hard quarantine for Indian travellers to the United Kingdom and that it was important to prioritise Asian Games and they don’t want to risk the health of the athletes as reasons to pull out. “With nine months to go to the start of Birmingham 2022, the Games Partners are constantly reviewing all Covid-19 protocols so that the necessary measures are in place to ensure the safety and security of all athletes, coaches and support staff,” a CGF spokesperson told The Tribune. — TNS
