Chandigarh, August 27
A day after Chandigarh Tribune highlighted that the Chandigarh Olympic Association (COA) has called its annual general house on August 30 to discuss the elections and the State Games, which they have not organised in their four-year term, the general secretary of the association announced postponement of the meeting as well as the elections.
He also said the next meeting might held at a government school instead of a five-star venue.
“I have decided to postpone the meeting and elections by 20 to 25 days. If the number of Covid cases decreases, we can decide on the next date soon,” said Maha Singh, general secretary, COA.
Earlier in the day, members associated with the COA demanded that the house should make public a copy of the permission letter, authorising them to call the meeting.
“They cannot call this meeting without taking permission of the UT Administration. This is definitely not the right time to call the house and decide on elections. Even the UT Administration cannot permit them under provisions of the National Disaster Management Act,” said Chander Mukhi Sharma, former councillor and representative of the Chandigarh Basketball Association (CBA).
“It’s better to postpone elections, otherwise some members will write another letter to the Administration,” Maha Singh added.
