Chandigarh University won the overall trophy of All India Inter University American Football Championship, concluded at their campus in Gharuan today. The hosts defeated Lovely Professional University (Jalandhar) 14-8.
Earlier during the flag category, Chandigarh University won their quarterfinal match against Jadavpur University (West Bengal) 8-0, followed by a 12-6 win over JECRC University (Rajasthan) in the semifinals.
Jalandhar meanwhile defeated Poornima University (Rajasthan) 14-0 and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University (Agra) 14-0 before setting up the title clash with the hosts. JECRC University (Rajasthan) defeated Manipal University 12-6 and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University defeated Jaipur National University 8-0 in other quarterfinals matches.
Kapil and Shubham of Chandigarh University were adjudged best defensive and most valuable players of the flag category at the end of the tournament, respectively.
The host team also lifted the overall trophy of tackle event of the men’s tournament by defeating Lovely Professional University 8-0 in the final. Earlier, the side defeated Jadavpur University 30-0 in the semis, while Lovely Professional University defeated and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University 14-0. In the men’s tackle category, Jadavpur University defeated and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University 7-0 to claim the bronze medal. Hritik and Rohit of Chandigarh University were adjudged best defensive and most valuable player of the tournament, respectively.
Women’s c’ship from March 11
The All India Inter-University American Football Championship for women will be played from March 11 to 13 at the Chandigarh University.
